Ok, I am a ipad owner. I also had about 3 different kindles. I was torn
between the paperwhite or the fire HD. Since I am a avid reader I was
drawn towards the paperwhite, but it seemed quite expensive for just a
reader. I looked a little bit deeper in the fire HD and discovered it
was exactly what I needed.
You probably ask yourself why I do not use the ipad? Don't get me wrong, I love my ipad, but:
My eyes get too tired from prolonged reading
It is too heavy
and last but not least, it does not fit in my handbags!!!
The fire HD is the solution to all the above and more.
I love the compact size, it responds as well as the ipad to touch and the screen it just fabulous. I had the HD for about 24hrs and absolutely love it.
So, if you need a compact sized device for reading, browsing the web, e-mail, etc.. this is for you!! And by god, I wanted to wait for the ipad mini but I fear it will still be in the $300. For $199 the HD is a steal!
And ladies, it fits so snug into your handbag. Love it...

I got the Kindle Fire HD 7" tablet for an early Christmas present. So
far, in just two days I have downloaded a bunch of free apps, purchased a
few, downloaded some of my books, organized my media lists, set up
e-mail and wi-fi, personalized my settings, and tried out just about
everything else on the Kindle. Everything has worked perfectly. And it
was all so quick and easy to do. The Fire has a fantastic screen for
reading and the HD quality of video is awesome. The speakers are nice
and loud and sound really good. The voice is much better with the Fire
when you use the speech to text than it was with my other Kindle. I am
thrilled with the Fire and how easy it is to learn to use, as well as
how easy it is to carry. I bought a rooCase Oragami Dual View case for
it that lets me stand it up three different ways without having to worry
about it falling down. I bought the version of the Kindle Fire HD
without ads and, in my opinion, this is the best $264 I have ever spent.
If you want a tablet that can handle media, games, e-mail, e-books,
etc., and lets you read in the sun, at night, wherever/whenever, the
Kindle Fire HD is it. I looked at the mini iPad and between the better
HD screen and the price of the Kindle, the iPad was no competition.
